I know that this past weekend we’ve probably all OVER-talked about how amazing the weather has been, but how can we not? Despite today’s rainy weather (which Olivia and I both slept through), Spring is finally here and there is nothing like the longest-winter-in-the-history-of-EVER to make us appreciate it a little more this time around.
On Thursday I think it hit 63 degrees and honestly, Olivia and I spent most of the early afternoon inside, coloring. But only out of habit. All of a sudden a little light bulb went off and I said, “What are we doing inside, Olivia?! It’s beautiful out!!” So we put on our shoes (can we take a second to really look at how cute she looks with those converse on?!), grabbed the bubbles, the chalk, her ball, and Charlie, and we spent the rest of the afternoon outside basking in the beautiful weather that has finally graced us all.
Fun fact: as soon as I found out I was pregnant, I bought this box of chalk. I have very patiently been waiting for the day that I could sit outside with my child and cover the sidewalks with chalk.
That day finally came and I was in complete heaven.
(Although I think I was a little more excited than she was. She just wanted to run around. What a KID.)
After our little chalk sesh, we went for a walk. I love the fact that when I say, “Olivia, hold my hand please.” She grabs my hand so tight and calmly walks next to me. Granted it’s only for a minute or two, it’s still so nice to walk with your little daughter, hand in hand, down the street.
We got to the middle of the block and then Olivia stopped right in front of me and put her arms up for me to carry her. I said, “No, Olivia, you can walk, you love to walk! Let’s walk some more.” And guess what she did next? She sat. She didn’t pout or whine (surprisingly), she just looked at me, and sat down in the middle of the sidewalk. As if to say, “Well if you’re not going to carry me, I’m going to sit here until I don’t feel tired any more.” Well played, kid.
And yes, I did carry her back home.
When we got back, I could NOT bring myself to go inside just yet. It was like this beautiful day was sent to us from above as a sign to make my whole ‘unplugging‘ thing easier, and more fun. So we chalked a little more, my friend, Daniel, stopped by, we played with her ball, and then we finally went inside for the night.
^Olivia’s first real chalk masterpiece. Trust me, if I could’ve straight up cut that little piece out of the concrete, I would’ve. But this picture will just have to do…..until I figure out how to cut things out of concrete. #momprobz^
The only thing that would’ve made the day absolutely perfect was if Dominic could’ve been there. I know he wished he was there too because when I sent him a picture, he responded, “OMG Is she drawing?! I WISH I WAS THERE!” Dead giveaway, I guess.
Don’t worry, we’ve made up for it since. He’s gotten to chalk with her a few times, and we’ve all been able to enjoy the first days of Spring together. Actually, on Monday we bought the carrier seat for my bike so hopefully on Thursday we’ll be able to put it together and start bike riding!
Being a parent is awesome, for real.
Hope everyone else is getting and enjoying this amazing weather!
