This weekend felt like a really lazy, but busy one, all at the same time. Yeah, I’m confused by that sentence too.
We started the weekend with cold weather, and ended the it with a perfect 65 degree day. But really, I just feel like we’re all being teased, and it’s really unnecessary. Spring, just do your thing already!
Also, Olivia is 17 months today. It’s just not okay.
On Friday Dominic worked a mid-shift, so he was out the door at 7:30am. It’s not something any of us were obviously used to, but it was nice when he was home by 6 :)
Olivia and I hung out with my sister all afternoon. She got the iPhone 5, so she was over here showing off, naturally. Olivia was showing off too:
After she left, Olivia took a nap, and actually, I did too. And when we woke up, we curled up on the couch and watched some TV with snacks. She has been really into Cheerios and banana chips lately. I can’t blame her though because it really is a delicious combo ;)
Aside from his days off, Dominic doesn’t get to eat dinner with us so I wanted to make sure that he came home to a special meal. I made one of his favorites: ranch chicken, broccoli, and potatoes. He was very pleased when he came home, to say the least.
I made a sweet potato for Olivia, and this time, I added a little bit of cinnamon. Who knew that’s all I needed to do? Home girl ate more of those potatoes than I was anticipating, but I was absolutely not complaining. And she was eating them with a spoon, no less (there may be a little complaint about that ;) She also ate some chicken and a few carrots. I hope I don’t jinx it by saying this next thing, but I really feel like we may finally be over the whole ‘picky eater’ thing. She is doing so much better about eating what’s in front of her. I’m so proud!
After we finished eating, I cleaned up and gave her a bath. On Wednesday, she had her first real fall outside and she scratched her nose, and a little bit of her upper lip :(
And then finally, I got ready, and went out with the girls. Like I said on friday, our bff, Carly, was in from Minnesota, so we went out for a few drinks.
We had a really good time and actually, the only picture I’m going to post from that night is one of my drinks. I kept sending Dominic pictures of my drink, every time I got a refill, saying “Round __ here we goooo!” I’m a freak, I know.
My drink of choice is Jack and Coke. Always. Go ahead, you can laugh. Dominic always makes fun of me!
Anyway, we danced, and drank, and laughed and it made me so excited for the bachelorette party ;) I love my friends.
Saturday morning I slept until 10:30, and then I came downstairs to Olivia running to hug me. I love how affectionate she is and I really hope that never goes away.
We usually spend our Saturdays with my Dad and Sister, but this time we had to meet up with Dominic’s parents to go look at our wedding venue. My Dad and Sister came to pick Olivia up for a little while, while we went to do that.
We had enough time to stop for coffee beforehand which was much needed, and then we headed off to the venue.
I got butterflies seeing the place again, we just love it so much and cannot wait to see how it’s all going to look on our Wedding Day.
And then of course we were hungry, so we stopped to get some burgers at Five Guys. Greasy food is the best hangover food, right? ;)
Mine and Dominic’s burgers:
It’s so weird to not be chasing around a little toddler or saying ‘no’ every couple of minutes, but after 4 hours, we were ready to see our girl. Yes, we’re those parents.
We met up with my Sister and Dad at Sam’s club and hung out with them for a little.
We walked by the liquor section and saw this glass gun filled with tequila. We had to take a picture of Olivia next to it, obviously.
When we get home, I usually take Olivia out of her car seat, and let her walk to the back door. Lately, her new favorite thing to do is go for a walk as soon as we get out of the car. We walked and Dominic made dinner on the grill (we finally have a grill!) We usually go around the block, check everything out and then come back home. I just love how she is so interested in things that I wouldn’t even think twice about. Like birds. She bird-watched for a good 5 minutes.
Dominic made the most amazing pork chops for dinner, they even got Olivia’s stamp of approval.
And then I put our little love bug to bed.
Fun Fact: Olivia knows exactly who Mickey Mouse is. And she is so in love. Like mother like daughter, much? ;)
We ended our night with butterfinger shakes (yum!) and some episodes of Lost. We’re already on season 4!
Sunday was the laziest day of all, but man, was Olivia a pistol to deal with.
First of all, Dominic let me sleep in……until 11:30am. Win!
However, I woke up in a funk, really not feeling too good. Dominic’s parents came over with lunch. Turkey tacos! And then Dominic had to leave for work, and I got Olivia dressed so that she could go for a walk with Nick and Nancy. I got a good 45 minutes to myself and when they came back, Olivia was ready for a nap and I got even more time to myself.
But when Olivia woke up she was so crabby. I love her more than life but man oh man did she push every single button.
I brought her back outside after her nap, and we were going for a walk, and we got half way through the block and she was done. She was sitting down and basically doing the opposite of everything I was saying. Olivia, stand up please, sits down. Olivia, come here please, goes the other way. Olivia, that’s not yours, please don’t touch it, touches it while staring at me.
When Olivia doesn’t get what she wants, or hears the word no, or any form of it, she starts to whine and walk backwards (she looks like she’s doing the damn moonwalk, how does she expect me to take her seriously?) and almost always falls.
Needless to say, she fell a few times.
So, I carried her back, while she cried, very loudly might I add. And when we got inside, she started crying again because she wanted to go back out.
I gave her time to calm down, I made dinner -Turkey Taco Cups (we’re all turkey taco-ed out now)- because we both love those.
And because she got dirty, I was had to change her. Although she thought it would be more fun to run around the house like a man-woman completely naked.
And flash the world.
Don’t worry, I didn’t let that last long.
Once I got her changed, and we went outside once more. It was just so damn beautiful out.
Our neighbor has a dog, so of course we had to stop to say hello.
And take another second to plane-watch. She has loved watching the planes ever since she noticed they were there. I love that she loves planes because I love planes too. I love to watch them. My dad said that I have loved to watch planes since I was little and that my mom used to park on the side of the road right next to airport so that my sister and I could watch them land and take off. She would always get in trouble for parking there, but she didn’t care.
I’m probably going to get in trouble for doing the same thing.
Then she got a bath, a banana cookie, some milk and nighty night, Olivia! Please wake up in a better mood tomorrow.
After I finally got her to sleep, I made myself a pot of coffee (I look forward to that pot every single day!) and then I cleaned up, and enjoyed the silence before my little hurricane child woke up this morning and destroyed everything all over again :)
How was your weekend?
P.S. One of my stories is going to be featured over on The Mommy Dialogues today at 2pm! Go check it out! :)
