You may or may not know this about me, but I’m a hoarder.
Seriously, I. Save. EVERYTHING.
When I was younger, I would save every piece of paper that I would ever get. Every poster, every card, every magazine. I’m serious. I even saved notebooks from school.
I like to think that every year that I got a little older, I got a little better about what I hoard, but since I’ve been living with Dominic I’ve been even better. I’ve learned to not save as many things (him and his family seriously do not save anything!) and kinda pick and choose what I’d like to keep a little more efficiently.
Except you will never ever get me to give up anything of Olivia’s. In a neverevereverdontevenTHINKaboutittrytothrowherstuffawayandDIE kinda way. If I have to build a separate closet, or a rent a storage space, so be it. My baby, my rules.
Dominic and I have made another grown-up decision and have decided to stay in our cute little town home for another year. There was talk about looking elsewhere, but come on, we’re really not going to get a better set up, nicer landlords, or a cuter place for what we’re spending now. We’d be dumb not to stay here until we’re ready to buy a home of our own. Also, can you imagine if we had to move to another place AND prepare for a wedding all in the same month?! No. Not happening.
Because we’re staying here another year (more like 16 months because our year wouldn’t be up until August), we have decided to do some MAJOR cleaning, re-organizing, and even moving stuff around. I have gotten rid of so many things, and found better (more organized) places for the stuff I want to keep.
I’ve been on a cleaning kick for the past couple of days and it feels SO good. Who knew that de-cluttering and not being such a pack-rat could feel so good?! Not I, apparently.
Actually, I don’t think I’ve ever cleaned so much. Except for when we lived in Arizona. I kept our place spotless…I was like a whole different person over there…
But that, my friends, is a post all on it’s own.
We’ve decided to make a list of projects we’d like to start tackling to make our house more of a home and I must say, I’m quite excited. Obviously I’ve been stalking my Pinterest boards for ideas on how to be more organized, make the most out of small places, and even ways to re-purpose older furniture!
A few things we’re gonna work on:
Our bedroom. It’s HUGE. It’s like two rooms in one, and I love it so much. I want to make it more of a……retreat…..if you will. I want to start spending more time in there. We have a huge, most comfortable recliner in the world, in there that is begging me to start reading more books on it. Walls the are screaming to get nailed (do you see what I did there?) so I can hang pictures up. And a walk-in closet that needs to be cleaned out with clothes that need to be donated.
Because it’s so big, I’ve decided to make an office out of one side. And to be honest, I think my office is going to quickly become my favorite project and also one that will probably never be finished. I have a million ideas to make this little space the second cutest thing in the house. A little miss thang is obviously the first.
Our living room/dining room. We may get a smaller dining room table, which, I really don’t know how I feel about that yet because I love ours…..and I also want to make the downstairs more Olivia-friendly. Sure she has her little play corner which she loves, but I’d like to add a little rack for some of her books (she loves loves LOVES to read!), and I am on the hunt for the perfect little chalkboard to hang on the wall in our kitchen at her height so she can draw on it! Also on the hunt for the perfect little picnic table that I can easily transfer outside so we can start eating out there when it’s finally nicer ;)
Our walls are also bare throughout the entire house, I’d like to add more pictures and I even found a DIY for a hanging vase that I am dying to try!
So in the next coming weeks, be on the lookout for pictures of our home. I’ll probably post before and after shots because hopefully it all comes together nicely and I’m gonna be proud!
Anybody else doing a spring cleaning/organizing/decorating?
P.S. In yesterday’s post I mentioned that I love to take photos outside. This fact is still very true and because of that, I’ve decided to take pictures of Dominic and I….kind of like an engagement session. We said we weren’t going to do engagement photos to save on money but if I can do them myself, why not? SO, if you know of a beautiful outdoor space somewhere in the Chicago (and/or surrounding) area, let a sister know! Please and thank you!
