Before Olivia was born, Dominic and I used to take his parent’s bikes and just ride around our town. I have always loved bike riding, and was happy that he did too.
For my first Mother’s Day, he surprised me and bought me a brand new bike of my own. I was in heaven. I was so excited to get Olivia a seat and ride around with her on the back, that it never dawned on me that she may be too little for that kind of stuff yet (5 months old #newmomprobz). The rule was, if we could find a helmet for her, we were safe. Unfortunately, we couldn’t find one small enough. Because of that, our poor bikes stayed in the garage and didn’t get much use that spring/summer. And then we moved. And then Winter came. And then the longest Winter in the history of ever came…..
And, finally, a few weeks ago, we bought her a helmet and a seat. Unfortunately after we bought her gear, the weather was still just so uncooperative.
Until last week, that is. Last week we were finally able to take our Girl for a spin.
I have to admit- I was SO nervous to ride around with Olivia on the back, but very quickly got over it. I was also a little nervous that Olivia was going to hate it. I was wrong. She loved it! She had a banana muffin for the first half of the ride and the other half she just chilled, with the wind blowing in her hair (she has always been a wind girl- just like me.). I also love that from time to time, she would put her little hands on my waist, as if to hug me and also when I’d hear her sing to herself from time to time.
And that helmet? Killing us with unbearable cuteness every. single. time. we put it on her.
(All of the following photos were taken with my cell phone.)
We enjoyed ourselves so much that we’ve been going on bike rides as much as possible since then :) I love that we’ve found something else to do as a little family that’s both fun and also good for us!
Happy May Day!
P.S. I know in these pictures it doesn’t look like she had a good time, but I swear she did!
