Monday, you really came too soon this time.
This weekend was a really good one.
Friday was a little bummy, but still productive.
Olivia and I hung out with my sister all day. We went to get a few Mother’s Day cards at Hallmark, and then we came home to Dominic and my friend Steph and we all had Jimmy Johns for lunch.
Dominic and I had made plans earlier in the week to go visit my Aunt and Uncle up north really late Friday night and wouldn’t see our house again until Sunday evening aka Mother’s Day. I didn’t want to come home to a dirty house on Mother’s Day so I spent all day cleaning and I did every piece of laundry in our house. We are constantly doing our laundry, but I’ve come to realize that I only do Olivia’s laundry once she’s run out of her little bath towels. Does anyone else do this? I mean, she has more clothes than Dominic and I do so I guess that’s why I don’t worry about it too much.
I decided to give Olivia a late nap, well, actually my sister tried first, but then I messed it up by running down the stairs……….
^them pointing to me and Olivia saying “Mama!!”^
So then after Krysti left, I laid with her and she finally fell asleep. And slept until 6:45pm.
And then I brought her upstairs so that I could put all of our laundry away and pack and shower, and this little portable DVD player came in handy because Olivia the Pig is the only thing that can distract my girl for a long period of time. Sad, but true.
And then finally at 12:15am, she couldn’t hang anymore, and she was out cold on or couch. We both were, actually. Dominic woke us up at 12:40am and we were out the door at 12:45.
Dominic and I are big fans of long car rides, especially at night, and especially with snacks. So of course we stopped….even though it’s only an hour ride.
Once we got there, we talked with my Aunt (who so graciously waited up for us!) for about 15 minutes and then we all went to sleep.
We slept in until 10am and it felt soooo good. We welcomed the morning with the most delicious cups of coffee (thanks J!) and we seriously relaxed in our pjs for a good third of the day.
And then my aunt and I declared this weekend a ‘Fat Weekend’ (how terrible are we?!) and went shopping for lunch and junk food for the rest of our time there.
We made spaghetti for lunch. I haven’t had pasta in so freakin long and that spaghetti was so good.
And then we went to a local cupcake shop. Every time I try a new cupcake place, I always get the red velvet, and I’m almost never impressed (except Molly’s obvi.). I was so surprised at how good the red velvet was at this place. And bonus: the cupcake shop was super cute. Nice Job, Sugar Buzz!
After we were done stuffing our faces, we decided to take Olivia swimming. My Aunt and Uncle have gym memberships and on Saturdays they have a free family swim and I was so excited because Olivia loves water and so do I. We had a blast. I loved that they had a ramp? (I don’t know how else to explain it) so Olivia was able to walk in and out of the water all on her own. My little fish didn’t want to stay under the water where it was warm, she wanted to keep standing up, so her lips got blue pretty quickly. It was so fun, nonetheless! I can’t wait to go back.
Man, do I love me a good bonfire.
We made s’mores, and Olivia felt so warm that she actually ended up falling asleep right in my arms.
We stayed outside for a bit, laughing so hard over the most ridiculous stuff and then I left Olivia with my uncle and Dominic, my aunt, my cousin Ashley and I ran to Wal-Mart for a little Wal-Mart party (that’s what we called it anyway). We went to go get bags for our Mother’s Day gifts. When we came home, we ate nachos and my Aunt baked cookies and who am I to turn down a freshly baked cookie?
It was Fat Weekend after all…………………
Mother’s Day. It really was such a perfect day.
Dominic woke up early in the morning to bring us all back Starbucks. While he was gone, Olivia woke up, so we snuggled in bed and she ended up falling back asleep. But she had flowers next to her for me :)
Once we all got up, we packed our stuff up, drank our drinks, had some coffee cake and then hit the road home to get ready for the day.
Our first stop was to Dominic’s parents house. His dad asked both Nancy and I what we wanted for our Mother’s Day lunch and we said ribs, chicken, potatoes and corn. And eclairs.
And that’s exactly what we got. It was deeeeelicious.
Second stop was my Grandma’s house. They had steak, potatoes corn, appetizers, more dessert. It was all so good. The steak was my fave. Olivia’s was the corn on the cob.
And then one of my favorite parts of the night. My sister. My BFF. She handed me flowers, a card (that also had a TARGET gift card in it), a mini ice cream red velvet cake (because she knows I’m supposed to be dieting) and a pretty little box with a sparkly gold ‘K’ on it.
This is what was inside:
Let me just say that I have been wanting this necklace since Olivia has been BORN.
And let me also just say that I cried like a big old baby. She made me this way at Christmas, too, when she bought me digital picture frame with all of these pictures of Olivia and the song “Ho Hey” by the Lumineers (because I always sing it to Olivia). And once I stopped, I read her card, and then I cried all over again (She said that I was the best mother she’s ever seen and how is one supposed to keep it together after that?!)
God am I lucky to have that girl. And not just on Mother’s Day. Every. Single. Day. She is my blood sister, my soul sister, my best friend, and one of the very few people I trust with my life and more importantly, with Olivia’s.
Unfortunately, I have been working on a little project for her since Christmas and when I went to finally order it. It got deleted (don’t worry, I’ve already bitched out the company.) I’m hoping her gift finally arrives at least by Saturday. I can’t say what it is because sometimes she’s sneaky and reads my blog :P (I love you, lady! :* )
After a long, but perfect day, we finally came home. Dominic bought me lottery tickets, a Reese’s, oh and a SPA DAY, no big deal. Olivia and Dominic bought me a mani/pedi and a massage and I cannot WAIT to use it.
One more picture of Olivia and I…….
…..Because I just want to say that I am so grateful to be the Mama of this little girl. Without her, I would literally be nothing. In fact, I don’t even know how I lived before her tiny existence. Sappy, but so, so true. I am SO lucky to have her. I promise to never take that for granted, ever, and I also promise to be the best mother possible, for as long as I live.
Okay. Enough with the cheesiness.
Anyway, after Olivia went to sleep, we watched Lost (we’re almost done!!!!) and drank tea and I will leave you with the quote that was attached:
So, you see, my friends…….The Most Perfect Day in the History of Perfect Days. So far, anyway ;)
Actually the whole weekend was pretty perfect, I’d say.
How was every else’s weekend? I’d love to hear all about them!
