One of my best friends was kind enough to give Dominic and I passes to our local zoo last year. We never used them though, mainly because we thought Olivia was still too young. Luckily, they don’t expire until the end of this year and even more lucky we were because my neighbor was also nice enough to give us a few free passes so we could take my dad, my sister, and our niece, Elianie, with us!
I haven’t been to the zoo in such a long time, which is a shame too because the one that’s closest to us is so nice and full of fun family things to do. As we were talking about how excited we were to bring Olivia for the first time, Dominic and I realized that as a couple, we’ve never been to the zoo together. It was a day full of firsts!
We started off slow by going on the carousel. In all honesty, I thought Olivia was going to love this. But of course, she HATED it. At least in the beginning she did. She cried and wanted me to take her off of the seal as soon as I put her on, but I didn’t. I kept reassuring her that everything was okay, and she eventually stopped freaking out, and even said bye to the carousel at the end!
And we bought yummy Jimmy Johns sandwiches for lunch because really, who wants to pay for over priced zoo food when you can have freaky fast sub sandwiches? Exactly.
Olivia and Elianie were amazed by how many ducks, seagulls, and even a peacock were standing around our picnic table, waiting to be fed.
^She kept saying “My boyfriend”. Um…..who does she think she is?!^
And then we were on our way to the dolphin show! We were so excited to see the looks Olivia would have on her face when she saw all the cool tricks the dolphins did, and we even sat in the “splash zone” so that she could get splashed!
For the record, she freaked out when the dolphin splashed us. I think she was taken by surprise, really. But other than that, she really liked it and sat through the whole show very contently!
/\ A lot of people don’t know this, but I really really love penguins. I think they are just the cutest thing ever.
Favorite animal for sure! \/
And then we got rained on for a few minutes. Olivia didn’t seem to mind though, because I taught her the art of puddle jumping. I love having a kid!
I think it’s safe to say that Olivia had a great time…..
…and we can’t wait to take her again!
