Happy Hump Day!
Last weekend we took a four hour drive to Stevens Point, Wisconsin, to hang out with our friend, David, and his girlfriend, Trisha. I haven’t been to Wisconsin in such a long time (and Olivia has never been there!) and usually it was just to visit the dells. I didn’t know what to expect, how my cell phone reception would be (the horror!) or how populated the town was.
We left our house at 5:30am, stopped for breakfast, and hit the road. Surprisingly, Olivia was up with us for about half the drive, so she got to enjoy breakfast with us :)
We only made one bathroom stop, where we also picked up a few snacks. Dominic and I cannot deny some good road trip snacks.
Once we finally arrived, we brought all of our bags upstairs and Olivia was so glad to finally be able to stretch her legs. And she was so happy to see her Uncle David (aka her god father).
Since we came in our PJs, we got settled in, changed, had a snack, and hit the road again. If I learned anything from this trip, it’s that each destination was about a half hour from each other…and that’s nap time talk for a baby. We definitely tested her schedule this weekend.
David decided that he wanted to take us on his parent’s boat for the afternoon, so our first destination was to his parent’s house to pick up said boat. He was even more excited once he learned that it was not only Olivia’s first time on the boat, but mine as well. When we arrived at the house, I got to meet his parents, and if I can describe them in one word it would be Lovely. They were so nice, so welcoming, so freakin lovely.
Once we FINALLY got to the lake, we unloaded the boat into the water and off we went to pick up Trisha from a restaurant on the lake. Although we were on the boat for seven hours (WAY too long when you have a toddler on board!), we had a great time. It was so relaxing, so beautiful, and so fun. Every time we’d get hit by a wave, our boat would rock back and forth and Olivia would say, “Whoa!”
Oh and, by the way, I would just like to point out that I didn’t realize that there was a water spot on my lens until we got home from our trip. I know, how do I not notice? I’m crazy.
We stopped for some lunch…did you know that when you go to a boat restaurant, you can get off and eat inside, but if you don’t want to, they bring you your food right to the boat?! I was amazed! We ate our lunch on the boat mainly because the restaurant was PACKED, but we did get out for a few minutes so that we could show Olivia all of the little minnows and baby ducks. A mom next to me handed me a little packet of crackers so that Olivia could feed them. I wasn’t kidding when I said that Wisconsin was full of nice people!
Feeding the minnows was Olivia’s favorite part, I think. She was so fascinated with how they were eating little pieces of crackers that she was throwing into the water.
Just before we decided to head back to the dock, we anchored to watch an impromptu water ski show, which was so cool. While we were all sitting there, I notice Olivia start walking toward the steering wheel. She hopped up on the chair, and decided to start turning the wheel back and forth. It was so cute, and look at how small she looks!
By the time we brought the boat back and made the trek back to their house, it was 10pm. We put the baby to bed, had late burgers, and went to bed ourselves.
Then around 4am is when our girl woke up with a fever :(
We finally all woke up at 9:30am, had breakfast and pretty much said our goodbyes. Before we left, Dominic and I stopped to visit their downtown area. We forgot to ask David and Trisha how to get there before we left and they we’re already both doing work things so we had to figure it our ourselves. I must say that I am pretty proud of myself for getting us to Downtown Stevens Point without getting lost.
Unfortunately, the downtown area was pretty dead, and there wasn’t much open…..except a cute little coffee shop. Because Olivia was knocked out in the car, I went in and grabbed us a few lattes -I ordered a caramel and Dominic got a NUTELLA one!- while Dominic stayed in the car with our sick girl. Although I didn’t get a picture of our drinks, they were reallllllllllly good, and so was the blueberry scone that I tried!
Before we left for our journey back home, we made one last stop to a park called the Riverfront. Olivia had woken up, so we let her get out to stretch her legs once more before we started driving again. It was really pretty :)
We made one stop, to get some lunch……and if you must know, we had Hooters. So bad, I know. But so, so good. I love chicken wings, and I’m proud of it! :P
We were about 45 minutes away from home, when Olivia decided that she was so bored that she would WHINE the last bit of the car ride.
Uh uh, sister child, not on our watch.
I pulled out the big guns (Olivia the Pig, obviously!) and she was peacefully content the rest of our trip home…although at first she was not too sure about those headphones ;)
I absolutely LOVEEEE road tripping with Dominic. It’s always the best time, we always have the best snacks, and it’s always the best company ;) We played about 15 different Pandora stations both on the way there, and back, and we were super lucky with how mostly-well behaved Olivia was.
Wisconsin, you were a blast in a glass, and we will definitely be back.
