When Dominic and I were baby-less, we would go to see the Firework Show at Navy Pier. For you Chicago people that don’t know, Navy Pier has Fireworks every Wednesday at 8:30pm, and Every Saturday at 10:15pm through the entire Summer. They play music, have little food/alcohol stands, and most importantly, throw a beautiful Firework Show. Dominic and I have been trying to take Olivia on a Wednesday, but something always came up and since Dominic had this Saturday off, we decided to just go for it.
I have to admit, I was a little skeptical bringing her. I really wanted her to see the fireworks, and I wanted to see what her reaction would be, but I was also a little afraid that she was gonna be scared, and cry.
I’ll have you know that my big girl was a trooper. .It started to drizzle a little, so we wrapped her up in a bunch of blankets and she sat there and watched all the way until the end. And actually, I posted a video on vine and you can kind of see her reaction to them and she doesn’t even look impressed……….awesome.
Like I said, the firework show started at 10:15, but the parking is always ridiculous, and there are always a lot of people so we got there at 9:15 to get a good spot.
We always park in or around the same spot, and we always pass a 7-11. We got some milk for Olivia, and some coffee and mini donuts for us, and we walked to Navy Pier.
While we waited, we took turns walking down the pier with Olivia (so the other could save our spot) and she walked around saying, “Hi!” to everyone (my dad said I was the same way!). And we were also able to keep her occupied by watching the boats that were passing through before the show started.
^And this is her on the walk back to the car….she was pissed because we wouldn’t let her walk around in the rain, so in return she ignored us by putting those little fingers in her ears. Such a peach, that kid.^
It’s usually so beautiful out when we go to Navy Pier, but we always bring blankets just in case. Chicago has been having some really weird “Summer” weather, not that I’m complaining #Fallforlife, but I’m hoping that the next time we go downtown, it’s a lot warmer and we’re not wrapped in jackets and blankets.
I love fireworks, and I’m really glad that Navy Pier has brought us such a nice tradition to be able to pass on to our daughter :)
Does your city have any cool things that they do every year?
P.S. Editing night pictures scare me….so…..none of these are edited :x
