Happy Hump Day, All :)
Saturday night, after we went to dinner for my Sister’s Birthday, Dominic and I came home, packed a quick over night bag, and decided to spend the night up North with my Aunt, Uncle, and two cousins.
I’ve probably mentioned this before, but we love to go up there. There’s something about having a quiet, serene place to go for the night, that’s only 45 minutes away, that just makes this place so special.
I think the best part about McHenry, is that it’s the exact opposite of our normal day to day. Being so close to the city, every one is always in a rush, it’s so loud and basically just busy. In McHenry, however, it’s so open, and free. It’s quiet, calm, and peaceful.
My family also has a lake house, about 10 minutes from their home. It’s tiny, but they have so much land and it’s right on the water.
In fact really, the only part of our quick trip that wasn’t perfect was our sleeping situation. We forgot Olivia’s playpen so the three of us shared a full size bed….not very comfy when you have a baby that sleeps in positions that you can’t even imagine are very comfortable.
So we woke up Sunday morning to this:
We had coffee, waffles, pancakes, sausage, hashbrowns. My Aunt doesn’t mess around.
And then we lazed around a bit outside. Dominic let Olivia walk around in the grass in her footie pjs while I took pictures. It was such a beautiful morning, with the most perfect breeze- not too strong, not too weak.
We went inside, and changed into our swim suits. They constructed a little “beach” area so Olivia was playing with the sand, while I sat and enjoyed the waves and the sun.
The boys went out on the wave runners. I know Dominic was looking most forward to that and he was having a blast. I just had fun watching him. And then my cousin Ashley said to me, “Katie, come on, let’s go on the wave runners!” And as I’m thinking of a bunch of ways to tell her that I didn’t want to, I instead heard myself saying, “Okay!” And I ran to get a life vest.
I have never been on a wave runner. I was so nervous, and I didn’t want to fall off. But you know what? I am so glad I let her take me on it. I had a blast. It was exhilarating. It was fun. The view was beautiful. And even as she followed the big boats, to ride the biggest waves (making our wave runner jump from the water), and as I screamed because I was freaking out, I still had such a good time. In fact, I can’t wait to do it again. Oh, and of course no one got a picture of me on the damn thing.
And then after we tried to transfer her to the bed, she woke up…which was okay with us because it was only 12:30 in the afternoon. So we decided to make some sandwiches for lunch, and then kinda hung out around the house for a little while.. And then back outside we went. Since I knew Olivia was most likely not going to get back in the water, I just let her run around in her diaper. That girl loves to be without clothes….
^My favorite picture….she kinda has the whole Mowgli look going on!^
Dominic and my cousin went back on the water, while Olivia and I watched from the sand…and then we noticed the sky start to change, and grow darker.
I don’t know what part of, “man it looks like all hell is about to break loose” translated into “let’s go get starbucks!” but apparently it did,so Starbee’s we went….and you know I wasn’t complaining!
When we got back to the house, it was still super dark out, but still no sign of rain. So Olivia and I spent some time outside with my Aunt. I love talking to her :)
^Her doing the rain dance…obviously!^
It started to get cooler out, and of course I didn’t plan for cool weather so back in pajamas our girl went.
Usually, Dominic and I like to hit the road kind of early…we were shooting for 6pm. But between someone saying “let’s get deli sandwiches” and the beautiful breeze that the not-rainy weather brought, we were persuaded to stay for dinner and ended up leaving to go home around 9.
We don’t really mind driving at night, so it wasn’t a problem for us. In fact, it was a little more peaceful. The highway was clear, Olivia sat contently in the back with her sippy full of milk and Olivia the Pig on, and Dominic and I got to talk, enjoy the weather, and the beautiful moon.
Overall, although very quick, it was the perfect little getaway, as always. And we can’t wait to go back soon :)
