Let’s start with a small introduction.
My name is Mandy, and my Husband is Philip, and we live in the Seattle area with our 2 little boys. Bennett is Three, and Easton is One Year Old!
We met in 2005 through some mututal friends. At the time we met, I was actually in a serious relationship with another guy, although this relationship was coming to an end. It took me months (actually close to a year!) to get over this break up, and Philip waited patiently until I was ready. As soon as that light switch flipped, we started dating, and got engaged. 6 months after that, we were married. When you know, you know!
How long have we been married?
We got married in July 2007! Which means we have 6 years under out belt! :)
In your opinion, what is the best thing about Marriage?
I think the best thing about marriage, is knowing that you have a lifelong partner, someone that will always be in your corner. I’m lucky enough to have married my best friend, and I know he’ll always support me in everything I do!
What is the hardest?
Oh man. Well… even though there are a lot of amazing things about marriage. There are equally as many difficult things. But I think they hardest is compromise. So although we always support each other, Philip and I don’t always see eye to eye on every issue. So finding a middle ground is always a challenge!
Has Marriage changed you?
Definitely. It forced me to grow up and learn to put others before myself. And like I said previously, it totally helped me learn how to compromise, which is a skill I didn’t necessarily have before marriage ;)
Since being Married, what is one happy memory you have?
Oh my gosh. I have SO many amazing memories. I don’t even know. Besides the obvious amazing memories of the birth of our children, I think some of the BEST memories I have are of our honeymoon. We did so many fun things and really just enjoyed spending time together as newlyweds, with no obligations or responsibilities!
Are there any special traditions that you and your hubby have started since you’ve been married?
Yes!! Every thanksgiving, we put on the Lord of the Rings trilogy and watch all 3 movies while we’re cooking and hanging out with family. I have grown so fond of this tradition! Also, my Husband was born in New Orleans, and so every Christmas eve, he makes Gumbo. We both love cajun food!
What’s one piece of Marriage advise you can offer to us?
The biggest piece of advise I have to give is this: DON’T GIVE UP. Marriage takes work. Lots & lots of work. It will be challenging and frustrating, as well as completely overwhelming. But if you put in the effort, marriage will be so gratifying and rewarding, filled with so much love!!
Thank you so much for having me, Katie!! :)
