I think this weekend balanced out rather nicely. Friday and Sunday were pretty quiet and calm, while Saturday seemed super busy and eventful!
Olivia and I spent a lot of time on Friday reading lots of books, taking a nice warm shower and reading some more before we went to bed.
Saturday we spent the morning with my dad and sister, as always and once we got home, I was so freakin tired that I fell asleep with Olivia at nap time, when we woke up we found Dada asleep next to us. He must’ve come home, seen how warm and comfy we were and decided to join us. When we woke up, we layered up, and made our way Downtown with Dominic’s parents for our annual trip to Macy’s!
We got pretty lucky because all week it had been in the teens, but on Saturday it was 35 out. It’s crazy how 35 is warm to us after struggling through the teens the whole week! Olivia was obviously the most layered. She had a long sleeve shirt on under a sweatshirt, a pair of tights, a pair of pants, two pairs of socks, boots, a hat, gloves, a scarf, and a really warm jacket on top of being wrapped under a really warm blanket. Lucky girl. The first place we headed was Macy’s because we wanted to get a picture with Santa Claus before they closed for the night. All week, I’ve been telling Olivia that we were gonna go see Santa. All week I had been telling her that when she sees Santa, she has to say, “Hi Santa Claus!” And give him a big hug. “Okay, Mama.”
Macy’s has a really cool little setup where you’re kind of in a tunnel as you get closer in line to meet with Santa. There’s buttons to press and TVs playing Santa movies to occupy the little people, it’s nice. As we got closer we kept saying, “We’re gonna meet Santa Claus soon, Olivia!” Trying to make it seems as fun as possible. She would smile, but still didn’t really get it. When we finally walked through the hall to meet the man?
She was so scared. I felt so bad, and even as I tried to hug Santa to make it seems like he was a nice guy, she just was not having it. So, for the second year in a row, Dominic and I got in the picture.
In all honesty, I knew she wasn’t going to sit by him, but a small part of me hoped that she would. Oh well, there’s always next year! The professional picture still came out pretty nice :)
After we said goodbye to Santa Claus, we bundled back up and walked to get some food. Usually we go to this burger place in the basement of Macy’s but it was closed, of course. Instead we walked a few blocks to this Italian place that was supposed to have really good food. The place was SO crowded. My inlaws summed it up pretty perfectly- it was like eating in an airplane. There was only one narrow row for everyone to walk through, the booths were small and crowded, it was loud, and uncomfortable. They screwed up my meal of course, but Dominic and his dad seemed to really like the meatballs and sausage so there’s that!
Once we left the restaurant, the last place we always stop is the ChristkindlMarket. It’s this German market that sells delicious food like potato pancakes, brats, wine, beer, desserts, all the good stuff. And they also have a bunch of tents set up with vendors that sell really cute little knick knacks and a huge tent that sells really cool ornaments. It’s really such an awesome thing that Chicago does every year and I was so excited to show Olivia around.
We got there at 10:15……..and they closed at 10. I was so upset! But we still got to see the huge Christmas tree and Olivia loved it so it wasn’t a total waste.
We quickly realized that everything was closing in the city….so we packed up our stuff and left.
We still had such a good time, next year we’ll just have to get there a little earlier!
And we ended our weekend nice and quiet. Olivia and I colored all afternoon, had lunch, Dominic came home around 5 with stuff to make for dinner (and flowers and chocolates for me;) and after dinner we made a quick stop to visit my grandparents. We came back home, took showers, and went to sleep by 10:30pm because we were all so exhausted.
It was a good weekend!
^Patiently waiting in line!^
How was your weekend? Only 8 more days until Christmas and I still don’t have all my shopping done…awesome, right?!
Happy Monday Afternoon!
