Because I took a whole month off, I decided that the best way to catch everyone up would be through pictures, instead of long drawn out paragraphs!
Here’s what we’ve been up to lately:
Since we’ve had Olivia, we’ve spent every New Years Eve, just the three of us. We order some greasy take-out food, lounge around all evening and keep her up late so she can watch the ball drop (yes, we even did that when she was 3 months old). This was the first year that she was walking and talking and dancing around to the New Years music and then we all found ourselves asleep by 12:45am. Party. Animals.
Blog turned 1.
Oh Hey Baby turned one on February 4th! I cannot believe it’s already been a year. I remember first starting this blog and writing for a year seemed like such a long time. Luckily, I’ve had some pretty constant, and pretty perfect, muses to keep me inspired ;)
It’s been a little cold around these parts. And by a little, I mean a lot. We’ve had more Winter Weather Advisories than I can ever recall. I think the lowest it’s gotten is about -30. So crazy. So dangerous. As if the insanely cold temperatures weren’t enough, we have gotten so much SNOW! And if you know us at all, we really love snow. But as much as we love to be toasty warm, watching it fall from the inside, we also love to play in it. We have not been able to do that because it is just way. too. cold. Basically, we’ve spent a lot of time indoors. This Chicago weather is also being referred to as #Chiberia.
Olivia’s First Trip to the Movies.
One of the warmer of the colder days (you read that right), we decided, on a whim, to take Olivia to her first movie theater. We had cabin fever, people, we needed to get OUT! Anyway, there’s a little theater about 5 minutes away from us where the tickets are 5 dollars! They play movies that have just been taken out of the theater. They were playing the movie Frozen, and I’ve heard nothing but good things about that movie so I knew we had to take Olivia. It was Dominic’s day off, she had just woken up from her nap, the sun was still out, we’d get matinee prices ($4.50!), and we figured if she didn’t want to sit through it, which we knew she would, at least we didn’t pay 11 bucks a ticket….or whatever theaters are charging nowadays. Dominic and I were both so glad that we took her. THE MOVIE WAS SO CUTE. And Olivia was so good. She’s so light that the seat kept folding on her so we had to keep our legs on her seat to keep it down, but she wanted to sit on our laps for most of it anyway. We bought popcorn, M&Ms and water to split, and she thoroughly enjoyed herself. We all did. Dominic is always trying to get me to go to the movies, we haven’t been since I’ve been pregnant, but I always say that I can’t -and don’t want- to sit through a 2 hour movie. But for Olivia and Disney, I can always compromise ;)
We had a little Super Bowl party at my in-laws this year. We made a bunch of appetizers, and dips (I made this Buffalo Dip from my friend, Dani’s Blog! It was a hit!). Of course I didn’t take too many pictures, but the few that I did take were mainly of Olivia in her cute Tutu. The team that Dominic wanted to win, did not, but we still had a good time. My sister came over and some of Dominic’s family, we all ate, drank and just sat around talking, while Olivia played with her little cousins. It was nice!
We had a little surprise party for Dominic’s Mom for her Birthday. It was really just the 5 of us, plus her sister and father in law, but she was surprised. I made a cute little cake inspired by this one from A Beautiful Mess, only I did not make the angel food cake. It was still good though! The next weekend we celebrated my cousin, Ashley’s birthday, but I didn’t take any pictures there!
One cabin fever morning, I took out Olivia’s paints and let her go to town. She would’ve stayed there painting all day had I let her. Painting is not something I do often because it gets everywhere, hence the naked baby (and the green paint all over her body!), but I do love to watch her when I actually do pull out the paint. She is so careful and concentrated when she paints, and a lot of the other things she does, and I love that about her.
Dominic, that sneaky husband. He was out all morning with his dad and then came home in the middle of the afternoon with a tiny little box in hand. I’m slowly finding out that my ears are not adjusting to fake earrings too well and he knew they were slightly infected. He wanted to make sure that didn’t happen anymore, so he got me the real thing. Can’t say no to the real thing! They’re absolutely beautiful and I love the detail of the silver on the sides.
Olivia’s First Trip to the Dentist
I had read some places to wait until Olivia was 3, other places said 2, to take her to the dentist. But we felt like now was the right time to take her. So, we found a pediatric dentist right here in our area and she’s awesome! Olivia was freaked out, obviously, but the Dentist was patient and calm and didn’t mind my screaming child, who I wouldn’t doubt tried to bite her while she was checking those little shark teeth. That was probably like three weeks ago and Olivia still dramatically talks about that dentist trip. She tells us that she was scared and that they brushed her teeth with Chocolate (which they did– chocolate flavored toothpaste, I really thought that would calm her down!). The Dentist said we are doing an awesome job with taking care of Olivia’s teeth, which was awesome news for us. Afterward we met up with my sister and dad at the mall, and Olivia asked us to go on the train. We were shocked, because it’s kind of very un-Olivia, but we obliged, bought her a ticket, and Dominic walked her to the train line so I could get a few pictures. She walked through the gate, ready to go on the train, and then realized very quickly that none of us would be joining her….she didn’t like that too much, and immediately walked back to the gate, and stood by our side. There’s always next time!
Singing Jingle Bells.
Our girl has become quite the entertainer! She loves to sing into the microphone that she got for her birthday, and she also loves to hand me the guitar she got for Christmas to play, while her and her Dada dance around the living room with their dolls. Here’s a video of her almost mastering Jingle Bells….in the middle of January.
She was serenading me while I cooked dinner and it was a definite highlight of my life. Her little voice is just so tiny, and angelic and I am so proud of her for finally learning that song after practicing all through out December. She can sing me Jingle Bells all year if she’d like, I won’t ever mind.
And that’s all I can think of at the moment! What has everyone else been up to lately? Our Dada is off for two consecutive days, so we’re taking advantage of that and spending as much time snuggling him as possible :)
