Last week, my friend Steph told me about this exhibit at The Museum of Science and Industry of Chicago that was all about Walt Disney. Of course I immediately wanted to go check it out. I know of a website that shows certain dates of all the Chicago museums that offer free entry, so I went on and to my excitement, the next free day was that Tuesday…which also happens to be Dominic’s day off. It was obviously meant to be ;)
So Tuesday morning came, we got up nice and early, I packed lunches and snacks so we wouldn’t have to spend money by eating out, and off to the museum we went!
The museum wasn’t anywhere near as packed as the time we went to the Shedd Aquarium on one of it’s free days, which was super nice. And Olivia and I also really loved that there was Mickey Mouse pretty much everywhere, including on the outside of the museum ;)
All of the exhibits were super cool, and definitely caught Olivia’s attention, but we know that she didn’t understand a lot of it, which means we’re gonna have to make another trip in a few years, but they did have a toddler section that she obviously really loved!
And as far as the Disney exhibit, it was geared more toward teens and adults. It was a lot of information and history about Walt Disney (which I would’ve known if I would’ve actually taken the time to read about it before we went) but it was still very interesting, and I loved it. Anything Disney makes me want to cry because I’m so happy. I actually at one point turned to look at Dominic and said, “I’m just so happy right now.” and he looked at me like I was a nut job, but I didn’t even care. There were a lot of pictures and videos of Disney World and Disney Land and because Dominic and I were supposed to take Olivia to California in May for a little honeymoon/family vacation and visit Disney Land, and we are now not doing that anymore, I was a little bummed for a second…..but I quickly got over it and told myself that the three of us will get to go to Disney World/Land someday!
Anyway, it was fun to hear Olivia recognize all of the Disney Characters from the Disney movies we always watch, and there was an awesome Lego statue of Cinderella’s Castle, and original costumes and props from some of Disney’s non-cartoon movies (like Pirates of the Caribbean and The Princess Diaries), it was pretty cool.
We walked around for about an hour, stopped for lunch, spent about another hour and a half there and then right before we left, we stopped at the gift shop. Olivia fell in love with a pair of binoculars and we knew we couldn’t leave without buying them for her. It was so cute to see her with them around her neck looking at everything through those baby binoculars! I’m also happy to report that she’s used them a lot since we bought them, she actually brings them everywhere she goes!
After we left, we stopped to get some coffee and we really wanted donuts, but the place was closed :(
Once we got back to the house, I made Chicken Parmesan with pasta, which Olivia loved so much that she actually had 3 plates full! And we ended our day with a little ice cream (with sprinkles, of course!).
It truly was a perfect day.
