I’ll be the first to admit that Dominic and I don’t do “Date Night” very often. And surprisingly (or not), it’s not him, it’s me.
Well no, wait. I think it is both of us, but absolutely more me than him. It’s not that I don’t love me a date night every now and then, I just….well, for now, let’s just say that I’m a very paranoid person. Yeah. That’s what we’ll call it for now, because I actually do have a very lengthy post about a deep little something something that I’m writing and will post next week.
Until then, and because it’s Friday(!), let’s relax and talk about love.
In fact, let’s talk about the date night that we actually did go on this past Tuesday, and what a blast we had.
First off, the sky for the start of our date night was beautiful. I’m one for signs so I should’ve already guessed it was gonna be a great night based on that alone.
Have you guys heard about Starbucks Evenings? Basically after 4pm, certain Starbucks sell beer, wine, and “tapas” (aka small plates of food). I had no idea this was even a thing until about a week ago, and then I had to go try it out. Perfect time for a date night.
We got to Starbucks, I tried the Truffle Mac and Cheese and Dominic tried the Parmesean Chicken Tenders. The verdict? I mean for microwaved food, it wasn’t that bad! I’m sure had it been fresh, it would’ve been even better. We didn’t try any beer or wine, instead we opted for some tea and coffee. Wild, I know ;)
After we left Starbucks, we got in the car and just drove around for a bit. Which was nice. Before we had Olivia, Dominic and I were always in the car. Driving to new places, or driving nowhere at all. Always hand in hand, always listening to music, and always talking about something. Olivia is in the stage now where every five seconds (literally–every. five. seconds.) she is asking one of us, “What are you doing?” from the backseat. And then expects us to ask her the same question back. I think it’s safe to say it’s starting to get a little harder to hold a solid conversation without getting interrupted every other minute. Don’t mistake that as a complaint though, because we definitely don’t mind, especially because it makes us appreciate a nice conversation a little more when we do get a little alone time in the car.
We were able to have a nice conversation, a few of them actually. While we were driving, we decided to stop and get ice cream…which was a great call. Chocolate paletas are where it’s at! And then Dominic said, “let’s go bowling!”
And bowling we went.
I have not been bowling in such a long time, and I honestly don’t think Dominic and I have ever been bowling together. We bought one game, got a couple drinks, and I murdered Dominic the first game.
We had such a good time and were shocked that the game ended so quickly, so we decided to buy another one. I had no idea that bowling was so cheap. Seriously, I don’t know why, but I had this grand idea that bowling was expensive. Especially the place that we chose, it looked so fancy.
I lost my groove the second time around and Dominic kicked my little tush. But that’s only because I hurt my finger the second time around!
He’d roll his eyes if he saw that I actually justified my loss with that poor excuse.
My husband works a lot, and Olivia keeps me on my toes all day, too, so at the end of the day we’re both super exhausted that we don’t necessarily always make time to really check in with one another. I sometimes think that we forget that we need to recharge and reconnect as husband and wife. If we feel connected and refreshed, we feel better, and that also means that we’re better parents to Olivia.
After our little date night, we absolutely felt connected and refreshed and more than that, we were soooooo ready to go pick up our girl so she could ask us what we were doing every five seconds again.
In fact, we had such a good time that we’re already talking about what we’re gonna do on our next Date Night. We’ve decided that since I picked the place that we ate at this time, and he picked our “activity”, next time we’ll trade off so he’ll pick where we eat and I’ll pick what we do!
So I end this post with a question: What should be our next Date Night activity? Where should we go, what should we do? What do you guys do on Date Nights?
