Weekends are a hard thing to juggle as far as pictures are concerned. If you haven’t noticed, my “weekend review” posts have kinda fallen by the wayside, but for good reason…..I think.
As a blogger, taking pictures is kind of a given. People want pictures to go with the words you write and actually, people want more pictures than words. For the most part anyway. Don’t get me wrong, I love taking pictures (in case that wasn’t obvious.), but I also really love to be in the moment with my family. That’s the beauty of the weekend. That’s why people count down the days until the weekend, and why we’re so sad when the weekend is over. Weekend=fun. Weekend=family. Weekend=relaxing.
I guess what I’m trying to say is that I’m trying to find a balance. I want to share my weekends, but I also want to make sure that I’m not missing anything. Some Mondays there will be a weekend review post to look forward to, and other Mondays there might not be one. Some weekends I’ll probably be unplugged where as others, I’ll probably have a million photos to share (especially as the weather warms up, if it ever does.)
This weekend is worth noting, however, for one main reason: it actually felt like Spring. You see, Spring is having a hard time turning that corner, but I’m sure it’s going to be well worth the long, six month wait. So these warm one-day teasers are kind of like winning the lottery while we wait for it to stick around.
Friday night we had a few windows open, made turkey tacos and had a few cocktails with a couple of my girlfriends. Excellent start to the weekend.
Saturday was Dominic’s day off so we started off the day nice and early. In fact, Olivia woke us up by coming into our room, touching Dominic’s chest and yelled, “BOOBIES!”.
It. Was. Awesome.
We got up, brushed our teeth and headed off in our pjs. We got bagels and coffee, drove around for a bit and came home to get dressed to go out with my sister and my dad.
We were of the many brave (or really dumb- whatever you wanna call us) souls that decided to go into IKEA on a Saturday afternoon when the temperature was about 50 outside. I know I know, you’re thinking bad call but I was thinking, well, we know what we’re in here for so it really shouldn’t take us that long. Wrong. We still spent about two hours in that place and I swear I wasn’t even stopping at each room to day dream for a second! We walked out of there in one piece, with pillows (including Olivia’s first pillow!), a step stool for Olivia, paint brushes for Olivia, and a potato masher. We then rewarded ourselves with some Portillos because the rule in Chicago is that if you’re within a 10 mile radius of a Portillos, that’s where you stop for food.
Sunday was the nicest day of the weekend (except today the temperature reached 71! 71!!). My in-laws came over for a BBQ brunch, and we pretty much stayed outside all afternoon, basking in the sunlight. No seriously. I left my phone in the house and I was away from it for so long that I had like 10 missed phone calls from people. We take advantage of sunny days around these parts.
Olivia went down for a late nap, and I had to actually go in and wake her up at 5:30 because I was afraid she would give me trouble going to sleep later. I felt bad waking her up though because she was comfortable. I blame the pillow. Olivia hardly ever drools and there was drool all over her mouth and pillow when I walked in.
We made some dinner, followed by some chocolate chip cookies, did a mess of laundry, did a mess of coloring/dancing, took a shower, watched a few cartoons and at 10:30 she said, “Mama, I’m tired.” She makes my job too easy sometimes.
Because I’m actually writing this at night, I’m gonna go ahead and throw in a few pictures from our Monday as well. Like I mentioned, it was 71 degrees. It was the biggest teaser we’ve had all year. I say teaser because it’s supposed to rain all week and only get up to about 47. We went to the park, blew lots of bubbles, and basically just made sure to soak up as much of the warm weather as possible, because I’m not sure when we’ll see 71 again.
SPRING! Stop being such a tease and start acting how you’re supposed to!!
How was your weekend?
