I remember some time last year, saying how I couldn’t wait to have a series called “Olivia Says” and being able to share all the witty/funny things she says. Well guess what? The time is now, my friends.
One of my besties, Stephanie, was my Secret Santa this year at our annual Cookie Day. She bought me a really cute sweater, the comfiest scarf ever, and a book called “My Quotable Kid“. It’s basically a book where you can write down the darndest things that your kid(s) say to you. I had heard of the book before, almost buying it for myself, but reluctantly put it back on the shelf. You’ll never write in it! But when Steph bought it for me, I made a promise to myself that I would use it. Of course I still don’t write in it as often as I would like, in fact what I usually do is write down a few dates/quotes, save them in my phone and go back to the book and write them in later.
Anyway. I love this book. It’s such a cute concept, and I know I am going to love looking back at it in the future when Olivia leaves Dominic and I for some far away, fancy college or something.
Here’s what it looks like:
And here are a few of my favorite entries, so far:
2/4/14 We were honestly just laying on the couch reading books one morning, when out of nowhere she said: “Mama, can I have a kiss please?” and then I died and went to heaven.
3/8/14 We’re in the kitchen, I’m doing dishes, she’s rearranging the cabinets when she says, without even giving me a chance to respond: “Mama, can I have sprinkles please? Yeah? Okay, mama, thank you.”
4/17/14 My dad and sister were over, she had just used the potty and I said, “Olivia, come here so I can wipe your butt!” To which she replied, very loudly may I add, “AND MY VAGINA?!” Brave girl. I don’t think I could ever say the word vagina in front of my dad….
A few others that didn’t quite make the book, but absolutely made my twitter:
And while we’re on the topic of my cheeky little girl, I thought I’d throw in a few phrases that she says on. the. daily. Seriously, if we don’t hear most of these phrases at least 10 times a day, something’s wrong.
Favorite of all time: “What are you doing?”
“I love you sooooo much.” (My favorite, for obvious reasons.)
“Thank you so much.” or “Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!”
“I wanna do yoga.”
“Yook at the yittle baby _____! Awwww! So toot!!” (aka: “Look at the little -insert anything cute and little….little baby doggy, little baby ducky, little baby, little baby mama (me), etc.- Awww! So cute!!” We’re very emotional around these parts.)
“Come on!” (I gotta get that on video because she does this little hand movement and it’s the best)
Most of the time, you can pretty much tell what she’s trying to say, even if she doesn’t pronounce it correctly. In fact, Dominic and I are constantly saying that we are going to be so sad when she does start pronounce words the right way, and talk in complete sentences. Don’t get me wrong, we’re excited for it but it’s just….well, you know, the whole growing up thing that we’re trying to avoid ;)
Her language skills are seriously out of control. She’ll be 2 and a half next month and we are just in awe at how much she already knows and remembers. I have a different post planned for all the things she knows at this age (like how she can count to 20! or up to 10 in Spanish!), mainly for myself to be able to always have it written down, but for anyone else that’s interested as well ;) It’s so amazing how much their little brains can retain and how quick, too.
And if you made it this far, congratulations! It’s Friday, it’s supposed to be 71 today, my husband made me the most delicious iced latte ever and because all of those things equals a very happy Katie, I’m giving away a copy of My Quotable Kid! All you have to do like Oh Hey Baby on Facebook and leave a comment at the bottom of this post answering the following question:
What is the funniest thing your kid/niece/nephew/grandchild/etc. has ever said?
The giveaway will be open all weekend and I’ll announce a winner on Monday!
Good Luck and Happy Friday!
