I can’t believe I’m just now finally getting around to writing about Mother’s Day. It was wonderful, thank you for asking. I hope your’s was too!
Saturday morning, Dominic, Olivia, My Sister, and myself all woke up very early to go pick up my cousins, who live about an hour and a half away. For Mother’s Day, we wanted to take a nice picture for my Grandma, of all 4 of her grandchildren, and her great grandchild. She is always trying to get us to take a picture and it just never works out, so we knew she was really going to love that we did it for her. We had been trying for two weeks to take the picture, and our schedules just couldn’t mesh together, which resulted in day-of gift making, but it turned out perfectly. We got to hang out with our cousins (who we don’t see very often) for the entire day, which was seriously so fun, and then drove straight to my Grandparent’s after the project was finished so that we could give it to her. She was seriously so surprised, and it was awesome. No one deserves those kinds of surprises the way my Grandma does. She really is the heart of our family–I do not know how we’d function without her. We spent the rest of the evening with her eating takeout for dinner and ice cream for dessert, and it was perfect.
On actual Mother’s Day, Dominic woke up early to go spend some one on one time with his mom, and I got to spend some one on one time with my girl. I mean, she is the one that made me a mother after all ;) I know that Olivia and I get A LOT of one on one time pretty much every single day, but because it was Mother’s Day, it felt extra special. We ate breakfast together, and then we both put on some fancy clothes and went for a walk. When we came back, Dominic was waiting to pick us up and we headed over to his parent’s house. They had yummy BBQ and the most delicious cheesecake for dessert. We stayed there for a few hours and then Dominic said, “Come on, let’s go, I have a surprise for you.”
We stopped for coffee (of course), and then we started to make our way toward somewhere very familiar. I’m not gonna say where right now, because I have a fun little series planned, but I will say that it definitely took me way back, and then brought me to the present again, making me realize how far we’ve come. We took pictures by this certain place, and Dominic said. “We can’t selfie this kind of photo, so I bought you this to help out.” Ugh. That man. I could kill him. Out from our trunk, he hands me a bag and inside is a tripod. I have been wanting one since I got my camera and there he goes, just fulfilling all of my dreams. Again. It started to rain, but we didn’t mind it one bit. Did I mention how hot it was that day?! It was 91 degrees! I’m not complaining though, it was very much welcomed (and also very much missed, it’s only 49 today!) Anyway, we decided that no way on EARTH was the rain gonna stop us from having a good day, so we drove to downtown Chicago and went to try out Jeni’s Ice Creams. You guys. It was seriously SO good. So good that I didn’t even get a picture of what our ice cream looked like! #bloggerfail, I know but that just means I have to go again soon to actually get a picture ;) And of course. OF COURSE. There was a Starbucks right next door, so we had to stop. Of course. Didn’t you know that Mother’s Day was also ‘no such thing as calories’ day? No? Well, at least you’ll know for next year. Really though I just wanted a tea and I actually ended up getting it buy one get one, because I tried the new Oprah tea. Not that good, but at least now I know! Okay, it’s not that it wasn’t good, I just feel like the spices weren’t strong enough. I still love you, Oprah.
Anyway, we were pretty much spent after that trip so we headed back home. I know it sounds crazy but the drive from our place to downtown, especially when there’s traffic, is so exhausting. Once we were back home, we let Olivia play with her bubble gun for a few minutes before we all came inside and took showers and went to bed.
Oh and guess what else? Friday night, we were laying in bed with our child in the middle (bad night- don’t ask) and Dominic rolls over, looks right at me and says, “I got you a Galaxy S5 for Mother’s Day” Really, dude?! Who does that! I didn’t even ask!! He went on to explain that he had to order it over the phone because apparently Sprint doesn’t do in store contracts anymore BUT he checked on Tuesday to see when it would arrive at our house it showed that it never shipped(!) So! Dominic called Sprint and they made an appointment for us to come specially pick it up in store. So now I have a new phone! And really, it’s as if I was extra good this year because the really helpful man at Sprint told us that they were running a promotion which meant that I also got a free iPad Mini. Yes. Free! So now, I have the best of both worlds aka prettymuchinHEAVEN. I love both of my new little babies very much and I highly recommend the S5 to anyone looking to upgrade because it is seriously amazing.
So there you go. My Mother’s Day. How was yours?!
