Have you checked out our Summer Bucket List yet? I’m happy to report that we have already completed one of the things on our list: Go to the beach! As soon as we found out Dominic had last Friday off, we were so excited that we decided to tell Olivia right away that we were going to the beach. We knew if we told her, she’d pretty much remind us every ten minutes and hold us to our word, meaning we couldn’t back out.
Thursday night I got our bags together (we were also leaving to go to my aunt and uncle’s house Friday night!) and I woke up at 7am Friday morning to finish. I woke up to Olivia and Dominic snuggled up all nice and cozy and had a sliver of a second thought that I would just curl up next to them. I’m glad I didn’t though because I probably never would’ve gotten up!
I let them sleep until 8 and then woke them up. Olivia wasn’t too happy, until I reminded her that we were going to the beach….then she was all smiles. She also kept singing “We’re going to the beeeaach, we’re going to the beeeaach!!!”
She totally wasn’t excited at all. ;)
When we finally got downtown, we were welcomed with this seriously crazy fog. We could hardly see in front of us, the buildings were covered, we couldn’t even see the lake! It was so weird, but so cool!
We walked a bit before reaching our beachy destination and it was suddenly so clear why we came down so early. At 10:08am, there was hardly anyone there and the sand was still flat and unmarked with a bajillion foot prints. It was awesome! We picked a spot as close to the water as possible, set up camp and went to put our feet in the water. Olivia wasn’t sure about the sand on her feet at first (that quickly faded), but she didn’t even have to think twice about putting her toes in the water.
I changed her into her swimsuit and the rest is pretty much history. She was so content running back and forth from the water to the sand for almost three hours, taking very short snack and water breaks in between. The fog was pretty heavy for the majority of our beach trip, keeping the sun at bay, making the weather pretty much perfect rather than it being so hot and uncomfortable, and remembering why we never come to the beach.
Dominic and I did a little fistbump when we realized that not only did we not forget anything, but we also packed super light, which the first time around was pretty much the opposite.
Dominic and Olivia played in the water, and made sand castles, while I showed her the beauty of looking for the perfect seashells, and putting them in buckets to take home.
When we got back to the car, Olivia fell right asleep. About a half hour into her car nap, I heard a little sleepy voice:
“I had so much fun at the beach, Mama.”
It was such a sweet moment, one of those moments that Dominic and I knew we wouldn’t forget. We looked at each other, silently tipping our hats off to one another, and did another fistbump. When your child tells you how much fun she had doing whatever it is you guys just got done doing? Parenting win, for sure. Being a parent is awesome!
It was seriously such a perfect little trip, and I cannot wait to go again. I love these two so much, and the little adventures we have. I am so glad I get to do life with them.
P.S. This was Olivia’s second time to the beach! Here’s the first. Who is that little babe? :(
