Our 4th of July, like always, was awesome. I just love that holiday so much. I mean how can you not love a holiday that ends in fireworks? It’s one of the reasons why we had everyone light sparklers at the end of our wedding: they’re beautiful, magical, and make everyone happy :)
The first half of the day was spent just hanging out. It was nice outside, so we had all the windows open.
Around 4, we went to visit my grandparents for a little while and then around 6, we made our way to our usual 4th of July spot.
If you’re new to this blog, then I’ll give you a bit of a run down– For about 5 years, Dominic and I have gone to the same spot to watch fireworks. We head all the way up to the very top of a parking garage in our hometown, we order a deep dish pizza from Giordano’s and watch the fireworks from seriously everywhere around us. It is the best view ever. We spent the first two years going up there by ourselves, and then the past 3 years with Olivia and Dominic’s parents.
This was the first year that she actually started to understand what was going on, it was awesome. She experienced her first sparkler, she had her first piece of stuffed pizza, and loved recognizing and yelling out all the different colors of the fireworks.
Dominic’s parents brought the game “bags” this year which was a welcome addition to our normal tradition (ha!). We played bags, blew bubbles, played soccer (Olivia is SO into soccer right now!), and Dominic set off some fireworks. Nick and Nancy bought them from Indiana and made sure to buy the ones that don’t make loud noises for Olivia’s sake….except there were like two of them that actually did make loud noises and Olivia freaked out! Poor girl. Stupid firework seller for lying.
Then we all took turns snuggling Olivia while we watched fireworks from all over, which she loved. We were there until about 9:30 when Olivia said to me, “Mama, I’m so sleepy.”
We were driving home when all of a sudden we realized that one of the towns on the way to our house was just starting their firework show. We decided to pull over to the side of the road and watch :) The best part about not actually going inside to watch the show was not having to deal with the ridiculous traffic that would follow ;)
Another successful 4th of July in the books! How was your holiday?
P.S. Last year’s 4th of July!
