Remember at the beginning of last month when I debuted our humongously gorgeous advent calendar? Well, I’d like to talk about it a bit today.
First and foremost, we will definitely be doing this again next year. It was so fun! Although the only thing I’ll remember for next year is to maybe not be as ambitious. Some of the activities we weren’t able to get to, mainly because of weather conditions or timing.
I will admit that while we were able to complete most of them, I was a little disappointed in myself over the ones that we didn’t complete. I felt a little guilty. I know that Olivia didn’t care, and we still did something holiday related every day, but she I still felt a bit bad at first.
Then I took a step back and looked at the big picture. We still did a lot of these, and had a blast in the process. December is such a busy month, and I guess I should’ve taken that into more consideration.
All in all, still such a blast. Olivia loved opening up one of the bags every morning and eagerly asked, “Mama, what does this say?” when she saw the little white strips of paper.
Anyway, here’s what our month looked like, Advent style!
Happy First day of December, Olivia! Enjoy your new Christmas books and get ready for a fun month!
Here is a new ornament for you to hang on your baby tree! (She has a little tree for her room that she specifically calls “my baby tree”)
Today we are going to go to the store to buy a toy for another little child that may not be so lucky this Christmas. Christmas isn’t just about receiving gifts, but also about giving them as well.
(I didn’t remember to take a picture of her actually donating it to toys for tots, but that’s what we donated!)
It’s very cold outside- today we’re going to take a nice, warm Christmas bath! (Lush has really cute Christmas themed Christmas bath bombs! We got her this one. And, okay, I bought this one for myself!)
Today we’re going to build a very special gingerbread house! (we bought her a Frozen themed gingerbread house)
Today is going to be extra fun- we’re going on the polar express to see Santa! (The town that we used to live in sets up a train ride every year that they turn into the Polar Express where the kids get to drink hot chocolate, ride the train to pick up Santa Claus and then on the way back home he reads the book The Polar Express!)
(There are other pictures in this post!)
Here are some things you’ll need to make candy canes for your little baby tree! (Pipe cleaners and red and white beads!)
Let’s color some window clings to put on the door! (Target has a few fun, cheap kid’s activities and I chose the window clings because Olivia loves those things!)
Here is a new Christmas doll for your collection!
I cannot find this doll anywhere to take a picture!!
We know how much you love snow globes, let’s make some today! (The ol’ baby jar craft!)
We never got around to this one :(
Today we’re going to visit someone special— Santa Claus! (One of our nearby malls set up an entire “Santa’s Village” this year so we’re going to take her there for a visit)
The “Santa’s Village” was such a bust. We needed an appointment to get in there! Can you believe it? An appointment to see Santa Claus. Unreal. Thankfully, there’s another mall 5 minutes from good ol’ “Santa’s Village” so we took her there instead. We had to bribe her with a cookie to sit with him, but she sat still and that’s all that matters in the parenting world ;)
Today we’re going to visit BIG horsies and go for a ride! (A horse and carriage ride through downtown Chicago!)
It was SO COLD. (and also a lot) more expensive than I thought!
Let’s make some chocolate covered pretzels today and then wrap some up to give to our neighbors!
(We ended up giving cookies we made because the pretzels didn’t come out!)
Tonight let’s make a Christmas tree PIZZA!! (We just plan on cutting a pizza dough into the shape of a tree and then letting her decorate it with toppings!)
Since it’s snowing outside, let’s go sledding and then come back and make homemade hot chocolate! (If it isn’t snowing, we’ll just skip straight to the hot chocolate!) (Your best homemade hot chocolate recipes are much appreciated!)
We totally made homemade hot chocolate, but there wasn’t any snow for sledding! :( We used the Pioneer Woman’s recipe. SO GOOD. (I also cannot believe the only picture I have is of the damn chocolate…)
Here’s a new Christmas coloring book!
What do you want from Santa? Let’s write him a letter to tell him how good you’ve been this year!
Totally wasn’t into this. Maybe next year!
By now, everyone has decorated for Christmas. Let’s go for a drive, get some coffee, and look at all the pretty Christmas houses! (Honestly, Dominic and I are the most excited about this one!)
Let’s make a comfy blanket to cuddle with on the couch! (The fleece blankets that you just cut into lines and then tie together- so warm, so easy and very in-expensive)
So wanted to do this one….So didn’t. :(
Today is COOKIE DAY! We are going to bake cookies with your aunties all day and you’re going to need an apron so your clothes don’t get dirty! (Dominic and I bought her a new apron while we were in Galena specifically for this day)
Here are a few Christmas movies so that we can cuddle on the couch and have a movie night!
I don’t necessarily have a picture of this but I can guarantee we did A LOT of this. We were all about the Christmas movies this month. Actually, we still watch Mickey Mouse Once Upon A Christmas AT LEAST once a day. At least.
You wanna build a snowmannnnnn? (I had to! We went to the dollar store and bought gloves, a hat and a scarf for her to decorate her snowman with)
No snow! She did try on the hat though. We just got snow tonight so maybe once she gets over this little cold, we can go outside and finally build that snowman! Instead, we made delicious Christmas Kraft Mac and Cheese. She loved it!
Today let’s make Christmas key chains! (Shrinky dinks! Can you tell I’m getting a little in touch with my childhood with some of these?)
The key chains were such a bust! Instead, we made special Christmas cookies for Santa Claus.
Tomorrow Santa will be here! Since we already have cookies and milk for Santa, we need to make some food for the reindeer too! (Reindeer food! We used to make this in elementary school. Dry oats and glitter and then you just throw it all over the snow outside for the “reindeer” to eat.)
I honestly think this one was her second favorite. (Her first was probably the sleepover under the tree!)
Merry Christmas, Olivia rose! Tonight we will have a sleepover under the tree to end this very fun Christmas season. We love you, baby!
And there you have it! Can’t wait for next year!
