I like to think that I’m somewhat of a crafty person. For all of Olivia’s birthdays, 85% of her stuff is homemade and the same goes for our holiday decorations.
Olivia is into arts and crafts, too. I really love that about her. She could sit for hours and paint, color, or even just decorate paper with stickers.
Lately she has been requesting that I draw her things for her to color in. Sometimes she requests certain settings (“a day at the beach! Camping under the moon!“) or sometimes, it’s something a little more simple like hearts or snowmen.
Yesterday her request stopped at hearts. She just wanted me to continuously draw hearts and so I would draw them in black sharpie and she’d color them in and she really loved that. That’s when it dawned on me: Valentine’s Day is next week and we haven’t done anything in regards to the hallmark holiday. How is this possible, I’m thinking to myself, Valentine’s Day is my favorite.
So I continued to draw hearts, and she started by coloring them in with marker, eventually making her way to watercolors. They were so beautiful and I wanted to be able to showcase them somehow so I had two options: make a really cute banner to hang over my record table (which I might still do!) or turn them into Valentines for our loved ones. We chose the second one and they came out so cute!
All you need:
Art utensils (crayons, paint, markers, etc. etc.)
SO easy and very inexpensive.
We’ve been making a few every day and she’s looking forward to bringing them to the post office to get them mailed out!
P.S. She’d live in those Frozen PJ’s if I’d let her and also how good is she getting at writing her name?!
