I love my life. It’s a bit repetitive mainly because we’re stuck inside a lot due to weather, but I love it. Olivia and I are together all day every day and although it’s definitely not sunshine and roses all day every day, I still wouldn’t change a thing.
I always love reading how other moms go about their every day so I figured I’d give it a try. Yesterday I documented a regular old Tuesday and since Olivia is such a ham, she went along with all of the picture taking quite nicely. I had a lot of fun, too! Here’s what a glimpse into our daily life looks like:
The time differs on when we wake up around here. Dominic and I like to wake up earlier than Olivia to have a little time to ourselves before she wakes up but because he’s been working such crazy hours, we’ve all been sleeping in a bit. Olivia always starts in her room but ends up in our bed around 3AM so every morning we’re always woken up to “Good morning! How did you sleep?!” It’s the sweetest.
We finally come downstairs and get started on breakfast. Her request is always different: Pancakes, cinnamon toast, cereal…this time it’s cereal. And if she chooses cereal, it’s always going to be apple jacks. Don’t worry, I know these are fruit loops but Olivia is in denial and thinks they’re “colored apple jacks”. I pick my battles, obviously. Usually I sit down with her and have breakfast too, but this time I’m making Dominic’s lunch while she eats.
Since we didn’t really get to eat together, we have a little coffee date after we send Dominic off for work (with a million and one kisses, of course!). We don’t always have cute little coffee dates, but there is always coffee. Always.
We do morning yoga. I let Olivia go into the front closet, get our mats and set them up herself which buys me about 10 minutes to do the morning’s dishes. Fun fact: my girl loves to be naked. She would do everything naked if she could….like naked yoga, for example. “Mama, can I PLEASE do yoga like a naked baby?!”
After yoga we get a snack, and curl up on the couch for a movie. Minnierella. She loves anything Disney, just like Mama. I try to not put her in front of the TV all day so on other days you’ll find us listening to music and coloring/painting/practicing her name/coloring shapes.
Bath time. Confession? I really dislike bath time. She always cries because she hates water in her face and it’s just such a production so usually it’s more of a quick shower. However lately, we’ve been doing bubble baths because one: it takes the edge off of our cabin fever and two: bubble baths are awesome.
Lunch time. Peanut butter sandwich, string cheese, goldfish and a cup of milk. She only eats the peanut butter sandwich but I actually consider that a win because it’s usually the other way around.
Nap time. I love my girl, but I love nap time too. It always varies on what I do during nap time. This time I have a quiet lunch: turkey burger, crispy prosciutto and baked sweet potatoes, and then I watch a little Grey’s Anatomy. Other days I write, edit pictures, sweep the house and sometimes I even do laundry (although I also do that when she’s awake since she likes to help!).
The Golden Hour. I love when she first wakes up because nine times out of ten she is so happy. We play airplane on the bed before heading downstairs. The evening sun hits our windows just right and it is so beautiful. Olivia eats another snack, I start dinner and in between we dance around the house to Taylor Swift. We know almost all the words to every song on her new album!
Dinner time. I can’t believe I forgot to take a picture but tonight we tried something new: Trader Joe’s pork belly. Verdict? Not good at all :(
I go to my Core Power Yoga class and Olivia stays home with my dad. It’s a nice time for me to be able to unwind before going back to start our bedtime routine!
I straighten up the downstairs while she watches one last episode of Peppa Pig. We go upstairs and read a few books. It always starts off with only one book and ends with me reading at least three to her!
Dominic surprises us and comes home early! Olivia is in heaven, we really miss him so much all day. They mess around for a little bit and she suckers him into two more books.
Bed time. This time always varies, which isn’t a good thing, I know. It always depends on what time Dominic comes home. If I know it’s going to be a late night, I’ll snuggle her to sleep in my bed and she’s asleep by 9:30, 10PM. But if I know there’s a chance he’ll be home around 9:30, 10PM, I’ll let her wait up for him and then she’s usually in bed by 10:30PM.
I shower, Dominic showers, we check to make sure Olivia is asleep and then we curl up in our bed and catch up on one of our shows. This time it’s How to get Away with Murder. So good.
And there you have it! Thanks for letting me share one of our days with you guys! It’s not the most glamorous lifestyle but for Olivia, it actually is, which in turn makes it glamorous for us, too.
Our lives and our daily routines have changed so much since being parents but in the absolute best way possible. Sure we’re so exhausted after each day but we also feel so fulfilled, so in love and did I mention so, so tired? ;)
What does a day in your life look like? I’d love to know! Link it in the comments!
P.S. I’d really like to be one of those moms who’s all Even if I’m not going anywhere, I like to get dressed for the day! but I’m not….if I know I’m not leaving the house, and no one is coming over, I like to stay as comfy as possible. We all do ;)
