Hi all! Happy Monday!
Don’t think for a second that I don’t recognize my lack of ___ around these parts as of late. I know it’s been a bit heavy on the photos, light on the words. My mother in law and I were talking about it last night and she said to me, “When you write, I really feel it. I know it comes from deep down there.” and I like to think that that’s true. When I have something in my mind that I really feel like I need to get out into the world, it sort of just flows out of my head and straight into a post with great ease. That has not been the case lately and it, for a lack of better words, really sucks. I’ve been in such a funk the past few months that nothing hearty and heartfelt has really come to mind.
Actually, I take that back. I have about five drafts that are half written, I just can’t seem to get the words out to finish and press the big ol’ PUBLISH button. I mainly blame the weather, as much as I love the cold, the last month or so always puts me into a funk. I’ve also been crazy busy with Olivia, keeping up with the house, and, let’s be real, catching up on all of my shows (does anybody watch How to Get Away with Murder? Oh. My. GOD!). Dominic has also been working so much because he’s opening up a new store so I’m doing a lot more by myself than I’m used to. I’m not complaining, I can handle it all, and I like when my life is busy, but it really starts to bother me when I can’t get a second to use my big girl camera to take a photo or two, or to sit down and write out my thoughts. It bothers me even more that when I do get that second to myself, I feel completely uninspired and at a loss for words.
Don’t worry though, I’m starting to see the light at the end of the tunnel. Dominic and I are finally starting to get back into a nice rhythm, the sun is shining and it’s supposed to be in the mid 40s all week. Can I get a hallelujah? Jeeze, it’s about freakin’ time!
Anyway I just felt like I should say a little something because I know how stuffy it was starting to get around these parts. Moving on!
Lake Lawn Lodge!
It’s actually called Lake Lawn Resort now, but I don’t care. I like Lodge better and honestly, I’ve never been one for change anyway. We went there this past weekend and it was a great time.
This place is so cute, I love it. Dominic and his family have been going to LLL since he’s been small, but last year was mine and Olivia’s first time and it’s crazy the difference a year truly makes. I obviously remembered it but she did not so it was like this brand new magical place to her. It’s so funny that for about the first five years of a kid’s life, everything always feels new to them, so you get to experience those magical open-mouthed surprise faces much more often. It’s so great!
Dominic and I both agreed that this was the first year that Olivia kind of recognized that she was away from home and in this amazing new setting so she was seriously over-excited. She couldn’t fall asleep because she didn’t want to miss anything, she woke up earlier than ever because she wanted to go swimming, she was running through the halls like a mad woman, laughing until she cried. It was such an awesome little getaway and one that was so very much needed.
The one person that needed it the most, though, was my husband. That man has been working like 60-hour work weeks and Olivia and I have missed him like crazy. He’s overworked, overwhelmed, overtired, and was in need of a break like you wouldn’t believe. He finally gave himself a break the minute he walked out of work Thursday evening: he had his emails forwarded to another manager, he shut his work phone off, took his girls out for a quick dinner and then off we were, on our way to Delavan, Wisconsin. It took us two hours to get there and as soon as we arrived, I swear I actually saw the weight lifted off of his shoulders. He took spontaneous naps, stayed up late one night with some chips and a movie, went in the hot tub. It was such a beautiful thing to see my well-deserving guy take time for himself.
We were all pretty freakin lax, to be honest. We didn’t really do anything for the three days we were there! There were no alarm clocks going off, no schedules to follow, no phone calls to take. Just a ton of coffee, a lot of indulging, a lot of arcade games and a bossy toddler who pretty much would’ve lived in the pool had we allowed it.
Dominic and I were also able to squeeze in a little date night. We went to the cutest little diner for the best coffee we’d had the whole trip, some apple pie, and a side of fries. We also had the cutest little waitress named Cindy. We ended our date with a trip to Target (because, duh.) and then we went back to the lodge to get our girl and snuggle her back to bed.
And here are some shots from our very relaxing weekend!
Olivia took the following four pictures with my DSLR. She’s gonna be a pro soon!:
Did you notice all of the different light fixtures? I joked about doing a separate post dedicated specifically to just them, they were all so different throughout the entire lodge and I loved them all!
I really love that place, and I already can’t wait to go back.
