YOU GUYS! It’s been three weeks! I can’t even believe it’s been that long. Dominic has been working crazy hours again which means that Olivia and I are spending a lot of one on one time together which means that as soon as she goes to bed, I kind of just shower and pass out because I’m so damn exhausted. A good exhausted though, of course. I can’t lie though, it was a nice little break!
What’s new with everyone? How are you? What have I missed?
I decided to end my three week hiatus with a Mother’s Day post because it was a perfect two days (yes, two!) and I wanna tell you a little about it!
On actual Mother’s day, Dominic had to work a little earlier than he usually does on Sundays so we made it a little less about me and more about our families. I did wake up to two bouquets of flowers and cards from each of my lovers, though! It’s crazy that Olivia actually wrote “Mama” and “Olivia” on the card this year! Anyway, we started the morning/afternoon off with brunch at Dominic’s parent’s house! My father in law made both mine and my mother in law’s favorites: ribs and steak! It was seriously so delicious. Afterward we made our way to my grandma’s for dinner and that’s where Dominic left us for the evening. I had a great time with my family though!
When Dominic asked me what I wanted for Mother’s Day, all I could think of was one thing: family time. I asked for a full 24 hours, just the three of us. No phones, no computers, no work (including the house kind! ;). We spent last Wednesday doing just that. We woke up early and headed downtown first. Every time we’ve gone to Chicago lately, it’s been more work than pleasure and Olivia is so interested in the city so I wanted to walk around a bit and show her some things. We decided to stop and finally try Shake Shack for lunch and seriously, it was delicious. We walked around a bit but it was a little too cold for her and I really wanted her to enjoy herself but whining about how cold she was didn’t seem anywhere near her enjoying well, anything really. So, we made one last stop in the city before heading back toward the house. Where was that last stop, you ask? Well, for coffee, of course. We went to a place called Big Shoulders Coffee and it did not disappoint. I got a Marshmallow Latte (With a marshmallow on top! YES!!!), Dominic got a cup of coffee and the girls that worked there made Olivia a special hot chocolate with a marshmallow on top as well. We stayed there for a while and then while we were sitting in traffic on the way home, we decided to book a hotel for the night.
We stayed at the Hyatt about ten minutes from our house and it was perfect. We were only going to book a hotel if the price was right and if they had a pool, and it was a definite yes for both of those things so we booked right away! The hotel was super cute, super clean, and super friendly. We hadn’t even been in our room ten minutes before Olivia was in her swimsuit, ready to go to the pool. We let her go in the pool for a half hour and then came upstairs to order some pizza…….and then we were right back down there again. I didn’t go in but I loved watching how much fun Olivia was having. Afterall, it’s kind of about her too, right? I mean without her, I don’t even get a Mother’s Day! Toward the end of the evening, Dominic and Olivia left to get some snacks for a movie night and I had an hour to myself, which was really nice. We watched a movie and then kind of all passed out in bed!
We woke up the next morning suuuuuper early. 7:30am. I was literally standing over Dominic like a creeper and when he woke up all I said was, “I’m going to eat my hand if we don’t go downstairs in the next five minutes.” He laughed and then we got up! The hotel had a nice breakfast, we ate and when we got back upstairs, we realized it was only 8:30 so we put on the Disney Channel for Olivia and went back to sleep for a little while. When we woke up, we saw that she had fallen asleep too. Dominic and Olivia went down to the pool one more time and I stayed upstairs and had a little me time/packed our bags back up again!
Being a mother is easily my greatest accomplishment. I am so proud to be Olivia’s mama. It is such a special job, one that none of us should take lightly. Motherhood is a gift, and I remind myself of that every single day. Even the hard days. Especially, the hard days. There is absolutely no place I’d rather be than with these two. They make everything so fun and even simple things like getting coffee and going to a hotel for the night is such an adventure and I really love that. I love spending all of my time with these two. A day to celebrate mom’s or not, I really really love being one. I’m happy I get to be Olivia’s mama and I’m happy Dominic kind of made me a mama. I’m excited for all of the adventures we have yet to go on and all of the memories we’ll get to make along the way.
If you’re a Mama, I hope that you had a wonderful day, you deserve it.
