Happy New Year! I can’t believe it’s already 2016, although I have to say that I am very much looking forward to this new year.
We rang in the New Year the same way we have every year since Dominic and I started dating…together, on the couch, with snacks and dessert. The past few years that Olivia has been with us, we’ve especially made it a point to spend NYE together. There’s something about ending the year with the same people you start each year with that I love so much. Olivia didn’t make it to midnight Chicago time, but she did get to see the ball drop in New York before she passed out in my arms. Sounds like the perfect NYE, doesn’t it? :)
Dominic and I really love the New Year. I love watching people set goals for themselves, talking about all of the changes they’re going to make this year. Some people just need a reason to have a clean slate, and January 1st always provides that.
2015 was quite the year. We had a lot of ups and downs….from having a miscarriage to taking Olivia on her first trip to Disney World (which, btw, I decided to save our Disney posts until after the first of the year so be on the lookout for those soon!), 2015 was definitely an adventure. We also learned to save a bit more, organize more and also set a few family rules that brought us closer including our “no phones at the table” rule and limiting screen time for all of us.
Last Monday, Dominic and I sat down during nap time and we wrote out our goals for the New Year. We separate them into four categories: Goals for myself, goals for him, goals for Olivia and lastly, and most importantly, goals for the three of us as a family.
Here are a few goals we’ve set for 2016 from each category! (note: this isn’t all of them, some are more personal)
Sell 10 homes.
Run 5 times a week.
Run a mile a day.
Take more candid photos. (maybe even start a photo a day project, or do a better job of sharing Snapshot posts…)
Take better care of this blog.
Start at home preschool.
Continue to practice her spelling.
Teach her about privilege.
Paint our walls white.
Be more money smart (i.e.: shop smarter, spend smarter, make sure we’re looking at our bank statements each month).
Save dollar and ten dollar bills.
Explore and adventure more.
Take a family vacation, just the three of us.
We also decided to choose two words for 2016, Adventure and Intention. We want to start living our lives with more intention. Eating with intention, spending with intention, loving with intention. We also, as stated in our US goals, want to make sure that we’re going on lots of adventures. We really want to spend more time exploring our surroundings rather than sit at home and be on our electronics (don’t worry though, I’m sure we will still spend plenty of time at home. After all, we’re pretty big homebodies!)
We came across Elise’s goal tracker and plan on utilizing it this year for a few of our goals. I’m so excited for what’s in store as we start our first full week of 2016 and can’t wait to get back to this space regularly to document it all.
I hope you all had a safe NYE/New Year’s Day and Happy 2016!
