A few weeks ago, Dominic, Olivia, and I were browsing through Target, which isn’t all that surprising but that’s beside the point. Does anybody else make it a point to walk through each aisle while they’re there? We can literally be in there for one thing and still walk down each aisle, slowly, looking carefully, as if we’re really in the market to purchase baby items or door knobs or something even more random. During this particular trip, I think we were there to look for a new helmet for Olivia but somehow found ourselves in the frozen food section which, if your Target is like ours, is pretty much across Target country.
Anyway, while we were in the frozen food section, we came across their Archer Farm’s brand of creme brulee and while Olivia was yammering away about something, Dominic and I silently nodded in agreeance that we were in fact going to buy the creme brulee and make it that evening.
Usually our evenings look a little like this: bath for Olivia, story time, goodnights and I love yous times 100 before she’s finally asleep, showers for both of us, and us crashing in bed either watching Netflix or doing something on our phones.
The power of the creme brulee was so strong, that it pretty much drove us into the direction of a Date Night In. Once the Olivia half of our bedtime routine was checked off, we both showered, and then Dominic made the creme brulee. We opened and shared the last bottle of hard cider (had we planned it though, we’d probably have bought our favorite champagne) in our fridge and turned on Netflix. We indulged in the creme brulee while we were snuggled up under a blanket on the couch and watched a good three episodes of Orange is the New Black before we came upstairs and fell into a nice, deep sleep. It was perfect, refreshing and definitely a new favorite way to date my husband.
Our little date night in inspired me to put together a little inspiration board for a date night in. Perfect for the new parents and also perfect for the veteran parents that want to date, but don’t want to put on real clothes ;)
Eight years later and Dominic still takes me on the best dates ever. Happy Dating, you love birds!
P.S. I feel like if I don’t go into a little bit of detail, I’m doing a disservice to you guys. The creme brulee was seriously SO GOOD. I freakin love creme brulee and the Archer Farms brand was so good, so easy to make, required zero torches and was only $5.99 for two. They also came in really cute little glass ramekins that I washed and plan to reuse somehow…..I’m not sure for what exactly but when I do, I’ll let you know.
