The day is finally here…..
The day that I talk about potty training.
I’m not gonna lie, for a very long time, I was dreading this. Mostly because I’ve heard awful horror stories, but mainly because it’s just another thing that leads my baby closer to not really being a baby.
Dominic and I decided early on that we were not gonna rush this potty training thing. We knew that we would feel when the right time to start was, and we have. We really do feel it! Olivia now recognizes that it’s called the potty, she knows the difference between going pee and poo, and as of lately she has been telling us when she is doing which.
We’re on a little getaway in Wisconsin right now, but when we get back, we’re going to get our girl potty trained. All week we’ve been talking about different strategies on how we’re going to go about it, mentally preparing ourselves for the inevitable mess that’ll come with the first few days, and most importantly: making sure that we are as consistent and patient as possible. We’ve already chosen to not leave the house at all for the entire week, we have plenty of big girl underwear, potty books for her to read, and special treats for when she does the job right.
My grandma still had my handmade potty chair from when I was small and it is in awesome condition. Of course us having Olivia use my chair was an obvious choice. It’s seriously so cute and has the cutest little details including a toilet paper roll holder, a magazine rack (!!!) and a pull out bowl for us to clean after she’s used it. We’ve had it out for a few weeks and she sits on it without any problems, now we just have to get her to use it!
